Cargo Services kicks off statewide Books for Youth campaign

Cargo Services Inc., an Indiana owned and operated global freight forwarder with a network of hundreds of agents in more than 80 countries, has signed on as the statewide Books for Youth campaign title sponsor for the 5th year in a row. The campaign is operated by the Indiana Department of Child Services and Indianapolis Colts providing foster children statewide with backpacks filled with 25 age-appropriate books.

“As owners of a successful business in Indiana with client companies throughout the state, we are attracted to the Books for Youth program for several reasons. First we can give back to youth throughout the state through this program impacting communities where our clients live and work. Second, and most importantly, the smiles on the kid’s faces and the impact it makes to give the gift of reading is immeasurable,” says Steve Fugate, Cargo Services Inc. co-owner.

Campaign Kick-Off Event

The 2012 Books for Youth campaign kicked off Wednesday, July 18 at Cargo Services client company HAYNES International based in Kokomo, Ind.  Representatives from the Colts franchise, including Blue and Colts Cheerleaders, joined company representatives as they distributed backpacks to 30 Kokomo foster children.

“HAYNES International is honored to host the Books for Youth kickoff event with Cargo Services, the Colts, and DCS.  We hope to help enhance awareness of this statewide program sponsored by Cargo Services in our area and among our employees,” says Lynn Cope purchasing manager. “It impresses us that Cargo Services owners give back and actively involve clients like us to make a difference in the community and in the lives of foster children and their families.”

During the event foster children and their families experienced the Colts in Motion traveling museum, receive autographs from Colts Cheerleaders, and take pictures with the Super Bowl Trophy. Blue will perform his PRIDE Show, a 30-minute educational show that uses the acronym PRIDE to teach children about the importance of Physical Fitness, Respect, Intelligent Decisions, a Healthy Diet and Education.

Public Participation: The public is invited to support the program through the Buy A Bag and Donate One program. For each backpack purchased one is donated to the program and distributed to an Indiana foster child. Visit www.colts.com/booksforyouth for details and to make purchases.
