Nearly 50 Kokomo-area foster children received Colts backpacks filled with 25 age-appropriate books Wednesday, June 19 as the 2013 Books for Youth campaign kicked off at Cargo Services client company Haynes International in Kokomo.
Cargo Services Inc. is the 2013 statewide Books for Youth campaign title sponsor for the 6th year in a row in conjunction with the company’s Indianapolis Colts sponsorship. In 2012, Cargo Services received an official proclamation from Governor Mitch Daniels for contributions and efforts related to the statewide program. The campaign is operated by the Indiana Department of Child Services and Indianapolis Colts providing backpacks with 25 age-appropriate books to foster children statewide. The 2013 Books for Youth program spokesman for 2013 is Colts Kicker #1 Pat McAfee.
About Books for Youth: Now in its seventh year, through a partnership of the Colts, DCS and Cargo Services Inc., Books for Youth provides foster children in Indiana backpacks filled with 25 age-appropriate books. To date, the Colts and DCS have collected more than 750,000 books for this program and have distributed more than 7,000 backpacks to foster children in Indiana.
Public Participation: The public is invited to support the program during the 2013 season through the Buy A Bag and Donate One program. For each backpack purchased one is donated to the program and distributed to an Indiana foster child. Visit the Colts website for details and to make purchases.
