This program, now in its 12th season, provides Hoosier foster children backpacks filled with 25 age-appropriate books. To date, the Books for Youth team has collected more than more than 800,000 books for this program and distributed more than 8,500 backpacks to foster children in Indiana.
The Books for Youth team includes the Indianapolis Colts and the Indiana Department of Child Services, who coordinate this statewide program. Cargo Services Inc., an Indianapolis owned and operated global freight forwarding company, is the program title sponsor.
The public is invited to support the program:
- Donate Books: The Colts season home opener on Sunday, Sept. 17 versus the Cardinals is Books for Youth game day. Fans are encouraged to bring books to donate outside the gates of Lucas Oil Stadium. Books also can be donated at any Marion County Public Library or at their local Department of Child Services office.
- Provide a backpack: Through the Buy One Give One program fans that purchase a Mascot Blue backpack will have one donated to the program. Visit Books for Youth webpage for details and to make purchases.
